Billy Gottlieb - Founder

Billy got his first taste of Hollywood when he was cast as a member of Johnny Depp's gang "the Drapes" in John Waters' classic film Cry-Baby. After the movie wrapped, Billy packed up his VW with a few bucks and a dream and headed west to California with a two-year pitstop in Aspen, Colorado.

Upon arriving in LA, Billy had the good fortune of landing a gig with Quentin Tarantino's Music Supervisor, Karyn Rachtman. Billy's first credit in his music supervision career was assisting with the tunes on a little independent movie named Pulp Fiction.

Baltimore native Billy Gottlieb grew up with a passion for all things music. Billy was the drive time DJ at his college radio station and on weekends could be found spinning records and emceeing at weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, all-male exotic dancer reviews (one time), and every type of event in between, in need of a party DJ.

After Capitol Records, Billy founded Playback Music Supervision, a Film, TV, and Ads music supervision company working on such hits as Bring It On, The Cooler, and Like Miketo name a few. Billy has also supervised many successful television series through the years, such as Alias, Bones and Fringe, to Lethal Weapon, Doom Patrol, The 100, and Manifest, to name a handful.

Currently, you can hear Billy's supervision skills on JJ Abrams' new hit series Duster as well as CBS' comedy smash Ghosts, with a Prime Video series in the works called Ride or Die with Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer streaming in early '26. When Billy isn't hiking in his Laurel Canyon neighborhood or downward dogging in a yoga class, you'll find him dancing up a storm at various concerts and festivals around LA.
